Kristen’s, drawings, prints and paintings contain multi-dimensional levels, a bit like all living things not restricted to what you see on the surface. Her art can spark multiple imaginations within the viewer, keep looking beyond and into what you at first see!
Kristen regularly uses Zen painting techniques, where bold inked brush strokes intertwine with silky flowing tonal graduations, creating fluidly inked imaginings and landscapes. Her linework brushwork style is a direct and immediate method where corrections are not an option for the artist. It is a refined skill only acquired by years of intense technical and academic study across a range of subjects and surfaces; yet Kristen makes it appear immediate and effortless.
Kristen’s art plays with notions of universal connectivity; literally and symbolically. Humans, animals, otherworldly beings and multidimensional landscapes collude in benevolent lucidity. Offering glimpses into mystical interconnected ecologies, where imagination and realities can freely mingle. She encourages the viewer to look deeply and engage their own imagination freely.
Kristen believes that paintings like our existence, are not operating simply on the surface, that they are linked to another plane; a divine and fathomless mystery. One of magic where what you see is not all there is to it. Kristen draws on optical meditation, to connect imagination with the transcendent; until her visualisations, within the minds eye and the hand moving across the surface become one.
